Established in 2015, Yemek.com is the content website of Yemeksepeti, one of the largest brands in Turkey. While most of the content consists of recipes, the website also offers its readers list type of content, instructive content about kitchen and home life, and tips on good living. In addition to the recipe videos and entertaining video content it offers, yemek.com also reaches out to its audience via YouTube and Instagram. Yemek.com, which is also a platform where readers can produce content, is one of the best websites in its category.
Challenges:
The first challenge that we had to overcome after taking over the yemek.com project, which happened towards the end of 2015, shortly after the establishment of the website, was competition with strong rivals. The long-standing competitors were far ahead of Yemek.com in terms of brand awareness and content.
With right content creation strategy, yemek.com became one of the prominent players in its sector within two years, increasing the number of organic sessions by 196% in 2016 compared to the previous year, and this increase continued the year after, this time at the rate of 411%.
When the content started to perform at desired levels on the topics in which it was created, our focus shifted to new ways of attracting traffic. We improved the category tree and started to produce content on different topics such as plants, how to cook/bake, cleaning, health, exercise, diet, places, etc.
The most competitive times of the year for such websites are usually holidays, New Year's Eve, and special days such as the month of Ashura when special foods are the highlight. The website does not only compete with direct competitors, but also websites with different focuses that are looking to gain visibility. So, we prioritize this and follow the dynamic planning principles in such times.
