When a user searches a query using a search engine, the results page contains long lists of websites. Each of these results has a position on the results page. This position is indicated with a numeric value from top to bottom. In other words, the position of the web page coming out on top (after the advertising results, if any) corresponds to the numerical value of "1". Average position, on the other hand, refers to the average of the top positions of a website across all search results. No average position comes into question if the website is not listed on the search results page.
